Presiding Bishopric Financial Update March 2017
The September/October Herald included a financial update covering the actions of the June 25–26, 2016, World Church Finance Board. At that meeting, the board accepted the fiscal year 2015 audit and approved the fiscal year 2017 Worldwide Mission Budget
Since the June 2016 meeting, the World Church Finance Board has met twice by teleconference: November 3 and February 23. This report summarizes content reviewed in these meetings. This includes updating several actions presented in the Presiding Bishopric oral and written financial reports to the 2016 World Conference
Starting with this report, the Presiding Bishopric will provide a financial update to the church after each World Church Finance Board meeting. To read more, follow the link below…

Community of Christ Seminary
Community of Christ Seminary still has room for 5-7 students for the next cohort that begins August 2017. Since we do not have new staff to fill these slots, we want to open these positions for other members and emerging leaders.
If you are aware of individuals in your fields who have interest in the seminary experience and program, please encourage them to consider this option. Here is the anticipated costs:
- Tuition - paid by the church
- Students are responsible for:
- Books – approximately $2500
- Travel costs for 4 -one–week focus sessions at IHQ (this will require time off from work to be onsite for the focus sessions)
- Miscellaneous fees for applying and graduation – approximately $200
Anyone who is interested must notify Stassi Cramm by April 1st. The application deadline for seminary is May 31, 2017. Further inquiries about seminary can be sent to Matt Frizzell, Seminary Dean mfrizzel@graceland.edu or Stassi Cramm scramm@cofchrist.org

Samish Island Camp Volunteer Work Week!
APRIL 24-29 Monday – Saturday
Friends of Samish!
Things are shaping up for Volunteer Work Week at Samish! The event season began in February and we will have hosted over 35 events before we get to November.
Come for a day or the week! Food and lodging is free! As you know, we rely on volunteers to maintain the natural beauty and functional simplicity of the this sacred space. Many who attend events here over the years have asked about how they can help. Here's one way! RSVP with John VanDerWalker (Camp Manager) samishislandcamp@gmail.com
Over the next week or two, we ask your help in spreading the word. We are also reaching out to recruit congregations and others in the community to "sponsor" the work for specific projects.. e.g. How about organizing your congregation or group to send a crew to spread the bark in the playground..or screw in the new LED lights in all the cabins or save the trees by trimming English Ivy ?
Here's a look at the to do list:
Special Projects:
- Brown Restroom- install insulation, drywall and 1x6 fir ceiling, new lights, infrared heating and baby changing tables, and new toilets. (new stalls will come at the end of the season)
- Red Door Classroom - new windows , siding and roof.
- Yellow Door Classroom - new roof.
- Install curtain drains in rustic cabin area (lower sections of C and D row and across the east end.
- Spread new chips in play area to bring level up to safety code.
- Install new energy saving devices. LED lights in cabins. Water restrictors in washrooms and bathrooms.
- Change out rusting faucet stands in RV park.
- Rake around sport court and plant grass.
- Rewire Gazebo
- Install solid core door and blow in wall insulation to sound proof guest quarters in East Residence
- Upgrade a "model" rustic cabin ( new beds, larger window, insulation, floor paint, drywall and paneling etc.
Regular Maintenance (there's more!)
- Weed wacking, trail trimming, edging
- Pressure washing walks.
- Chipping winter blow downs and trimmings
- Installing "backer rod" in rustic cabin gables to prevent bats from nesting.
- Prepping classrooms
- Cleaning up storage areas
- Painting trim
- Installing weather stripping /door sweeps in rustic cabins.....
- Installing new batteries in smoke detectors
- Light cleaning
- Demossing
- Clipping English Ivy from around trees.
- Gardening/Weeding
We are blessed with a wonderful place to share and to gather. This has been a special place to gather for centuries as the Samish and their ancestors families established winter villages here. We have a chance to to honor this gathering place and to assure its availability for generations to come.
Peace and Gratefulness, Mark Chapman

As you all know Steve needs time to heal properly from his surgery, and as much as he may like to be ‘kept in the loop’ it is important that he not think about work at all right now.
Please send any questions or requests for information to Darrell darrell@communityofchrist.ca or Debra debra@communityofchrist.ca , and refrain from ccing Steve on any work related emails.
Notes of support for Steve’s well being and healing are most welcome and can be sent to his email address steve@communityofchrist.ca
Thank you
