Victoria Cops for Cancer Fund Raiser 2016

Joe Bouley from Victoria is a jack of all trades. Need something done, just ask Joe.  Joe has been raising money for Kids with Cancer for many years now. Joe "walks the talk" in the way he lives his life. We are blessed to have Joe and his wife Pat in our congregation. You did good Joe, for the Kids with Cancer, again this year.

Aid to Haiti for Hurricane Matthew

Community of Christ is sending an initial $10,000 from Abolish Poverty, End Suffering for Hurricane Matthew relief in Haiti. The needs there are sure to exceed this amount. You can respond now through e-Tithing by selecting the Worldwide Mission Tithes category and giving to “Hurricane Matthew Relief.” In Australia or Canada, go to www.CofChrist.org/give.

Apostle Arthur Smith is not aware of loss of life among church members in Haiti. “Many count themselves lucky to be alive, including a family who left their home just before the roof collapsed,” shared Arthur. Many members have lost their homes and of the 12 congregations in one area of Haiti all but one are destroyed. He said, “Due to bridges being out, we still can’t go visit people. Communication remains difficult.” 

Your continued prayers and generous giving to Abolish Poverty, End Suffering offer hope and tangible aid to make a difference in the lives of those affected by Hurricane Matthew. Thank you.

New Samish Island Caretakers

Once again Samish has been blessed in finding caretakers.  We are happy to announce that John and Sandy Vanderwalker will assume the role starting in November.  John will be serving in the Camp Manager position. Sandy will be seeking employment in the area.  John comes with a wealth of management experience.  He and Sandy ran a successful bee keeping business.  John served 17 years in various positions in the Community of Christ including Mission Center President, Mission Support Leader and board member at 5 different Community of Christ campgrounds including Samish Island.  John understands the operational budget process for camps and has experience with small business budgets. John and Sandy both share our Samish values around environmental stewardship and sustainability. Significantly, he has a long list of handyman skills.  They look forward to a welcoming ministry of “hospitality” and being active in the Samish congregation and community.

On behalf of the Samish Island Campground Board, please join us in expressions of gratitude for the service of Don, Sydney and Chloe Brady and in extending a warm Samish welcome to John and Sandy as they join Pam Bauer to make our caretaker team!

Jan Kraybill

Jan Kraybill is Principal Organist Community of Christ. Dr. Kraybill and volunteer staff organists provide music for worship services and present free organ demonstration recitals at the Auditorium and Temple. Jan also co-coordinates the church’s Dome and Spire Fine Arts Series, leads international hymn festivals, teaches workshops, and is a resource person for the denomination’s musicians. At the Kauffman Center, she performs and hosts guest organists for both solo and collaborative musical events. Jan has piano performance and education degrees from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas, and a doctorate in organ performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance. In 2010 she earned the Fellow certificate from the American Guild of Organists (AGO), the highest certification available for organists.

We look forward to having Jan and her wonderful ministry at

Mission Conference 2017.
