Chilliwack’s Linda Phelps Artwork featured at Gardiner Museum
The mighty oak trees that grew on Vimy Ridge were destroyed in the battle fought there during World War I in 1917. Leslie Miller, a Canadian soldier who survived the war, retrieved acorns from the battlefield and sent them home to his family in Scarborough, where ten majestic Vimy oaks still grow today.
The Vimy Oaks Team is working with the Vimy Foundation to repatriate the oaks to France for the 2017 commemoration of the battle’s 100th anniversary. They will be planted near the new education centre located at the Canadian National Vimy Memorial. The National Executive of the Porcelain Artists of Canada (P.A.C) invited artists from across the country to decorate Limoges cache pots to be presented to dignitaries including Queen Elizabeth II, as well as the Presidents of France and Germany, and the Governor General of Canada. Each pot will contain a Vimy oak seedling.
The artists are Linda Phelps of British Columbia, Glenda Lenz of Alberta, Elizabeth Fry of Ontario, Marlene Eagan and Sol Labos Brien of Quebec, and Isabelle LaFargue of St-Pierre et Miquelon, now living in New Brunswick. Each of the artists represents a unique theme and artistic style.

Cancer kills more kids in Canada than any other disease. To help kids being treated for cancer at BC Children's Hospital. The 2016 herring sale will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2016 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Hope for good weather, lots of fish and not too many sea lions. The price will be $15 for 20 pounds of fresh beautiful herring. Every penny you spend on herring goes to help kids with cancer at BC Children’s Hospital. We are a 100% volunteer organization, so everything from the fuel that drives the seiner’s engines to our credit union charges are donated. If you buy a bag of herring for $15, exactly $15 goes to kids with cancer, not one penny less.

Aid to Haiti for Hurricane Matthew
Thank you for your ongoing generous support for Hurricane Matthew disaster relief aid in Haiti. As of Monday, October 31, members in Canada, the British Isles, and USA have donated about US$30,000.
The church will send up to $35,000 beyond the initial $10,000 allocated for these relief efforts as immediate and long-term needs in Haiti are assessed. Contributions received for Hurricane Matthew disaster relief that exceed $35,000 may be used for Haiti relief or other future Abolish Poverty, End Suffering needs. We ask for your continued prayers for our brothers and sisters in Haiti.
Community of Christ is sending an initial $10,000 from Abolish Poverty, End Suffering for Hurricane Matthew relief in Haiti. The needs there are sure to exceed this amount. You can respond now through e-Tithing by selecting the Worldwide Mission Tithes category and giving to “Hurricane Matthew Relief.” In Australia or Canada, go to www.CofChrist.org/give.
Instructions for donating through ‘Canada Helps’
· On the CanadaHelps.Org page for “Community of Christ Canada West Mission” click the “Fund” drop-down menu and select “WC-Abolish Poverty, End Suffering”
· Select the “Donate Now” box if this is a one-time donation – or highlight the “Monthly” box and select how many donations to make and on what dates.
· Then enter the amount of the donation to be made.
· In the “message” box include a note such as, “For Haiti Hurricane relief” (this is necessary in order to know the intent. Otherwise the donation will likely go to the general Abolish Poverty/End Suffering fund)
· Then continue to enter your payment information and other information about you as a donor.
