Norm Olson’s 99th Birthday Party

Victoria, BC

Mark your calendar for Sunday September 11, as we are having a lunch in honour of Norm Olson’s 99th Birthday at the Victoria Church. This will be held right after the 11AM church service. We will be having pull pork sandwiches, plus a cake and ice cream. Some have been asked to bring certain foods. If you have not been asked would you please bring a salad, vegetable tray or fruit.

No need for sweet treats as we have cake! Would love to see anyone that can make this special event for Norm. Please bring your best wishes and a card.

Those who can’t make it to the event, you could mail a card or call.  Norm would love to hear from you, I am sure. Even if the card or call is not on his birthday the whole month anytime  would be a good time to heard from you. The children can make cards or do a drawing for Norm’s birthday, if they would like to do so. Will have paper and drawing material at the small table at the back of the church for making cards.  Sally Glasier.

Men’s Retreat Hills of Peace

The Western Canada Mission Centre Men’s Retreat, (abbreviated to WCMCMR) is celebrating its 11th version. There is some debate whether I am lazy or just like tradition but as in previous versions this year’s event occurs the last weekend in September (23rd-25th); is attended by men who were born in either the 20th or 21st centuries; is located at the Hills of Peace. However, the WCMCMR also allows for diversity – we have guest ministers from all over North America who share their passions with us in a setting that is spiritual, but definitely not churchy (so don’t bother packing your suit and white shirt) which hopefully makes it appealing not just to members, but to our friends who have who have travelled with us on other worthwhile and memorable road trips. This year we are lucky enough to have Apostle Art Smith join us and he is going to spend a couple of days engaging us in the theme “Are They Invited to Men’s Retreat? – Women? Gender Non-Conforming? Jesus? “.

So you have options – you could stay at home and experience that adrenaline rush or you could accept this invitation and find out who else Art invited. If you are brave smart enough to decide to come I guarantee that you won’t go hungry, that you will laugh at least once every 4 hours, that there will be at least one experience that we will talk about years from now with the intro “do you remember the men’s retreat where we...”

It’s pretty basic – we kick it off Friday night at 8 with a couple of ice-breakers, figure out which room we’re staying in and find out when breakfast is on Saturday. Art has 4 sessions planned for Saturday, which will be followed by a large meal, a legendary campfire, and some subdued card playing. On Sunday morning we’ll do a few minor camp close-up tasks, share in a communion service with Art providing a brief message,  and then head for home.

It’s a road trip...It’s a spiritual experience outside the church walls that doesn’t occur 10-12 on a Sunday morning...It’s an invitation...

I will start to track you down, so save me the effort by e-mailing me confirmation that you are attending so I can allow the cooks enough time to buy too much food.

Greatness, Education, Training - Goals, Outreach, Discipleship

Please join us in welcoming our 2016/17 Get God participant Lisa Wingfield from Meadow Ridge BC. Lisa has been attending church in Meadow Ridge for the past seven years and was baptized in September of last year.

Lisa is looking forward to learning new skills that will help her become a leader in the Meadow Ridge congregation.

One of her teachers, Darrell Belrose, has inspired her to bring back the 'Flow Weekends' as a spiritual and outreach opportunity. Please keep Lisa in your prayers as she embarks on this year long project to better herself for the benefit of her congregation.

Doctrine and Covenants

Now Includes Section 165

We're excited to announce that the Doctrine and Covenants e-book for Amazon devices and apps has been updated to include Section 165. This new section was approved by the 2016 World Conference of Community of Christ.

Samish Reunion Supports Human Rights

A big “Thank you” goes out to all those at the 2016 BC Reunion who helped support the Amnesty International actions. Letters were written by 26 adults plus and amazing 19 kids!  In addition two petitions received 44 signatures.   Such actions can provide hope and sometimes release for those unfairly jailed or tortured!

How do we pay for camps?

Canada West Mission Centre is continuing to offer camps and retreats at no charge to ensure that registration fees are not barriers to participation. Donations are accepted to help offset the costs of the events. As you consider your donations this year, please keep in mind that the high exchange rate between the US and Canadian dollars will result in higher costs to the Mission Centre to fund camps and retreats. Community of Christ App for Android and IOS

Community of Christ launched an app for Android and iOS devices. The app is available for download from Google Play and the App Store on iTunes.

With the Community of Christ app, you can read daily spiritual devotions, watch inspiring videos, stay in touch with mission happening around the world, and much more.

The app development was funded through the generous offerings received during the USA National Conference after event expenses were met.
