Announcement of new Mission Centre President/

Mission Centre Financial Officer

Dear Friends:

I am pleased to announce that Stephen Thompson of Edmonton has been appointed as the new Mission Centre President/Mission Center Financial Officer for Canada West Mission. Stephen will begin his duties on July 1, 2014. Until then, please continue to work with Field Apostolic Assistant Carman Thompson presently serving in the interim role as Mission Centre President/Financial Officer. Carman and Steve will be in dialogue to insure a smooth transition of responsibilities, with Greg Goheen available for consultation on past issues as needed.

Please offer your support and ministry to Steve as he prepares for this responsibility. Your efforts to work as a team, cooperatively focusing on the mission of Jesus Christ and empowering the congregations of Canada West in their witness and outreach, will bring blessings to people both within and beyond the current membership of the Community of Christ.

I personally look forward to sharing in ministry with Steve Thompson, and pray for God’s continued guidance and grace in his life.

Summer Job Opportunity

June 30-July 14 at

Hills of Peace!

Hills of Peace Youth Leader Dates:        Monday, June 30 to Monday, July 14

Location:  Hills of Peace Campground, Cadogan AB

Events:      CWM Youth Camp (June 30 – July 5)

Family Reunion (July 5 –10)

Junior Camp (July 10 – 14)

Primary Focus:  Junior (8-12), Junior High (13-15) and Senior High (16-18)

Remuneration: This is a paid position which will include travel expenses.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualities: § A young adult over the age of 21 who has an active membership in a Canada West Mission Congregation. § Approved by Community of Christ as a Registered Youth Worker (or eligible to be approved by the end of June, 2014).

Leadership Opportunities: The candidate will be given specific responsibilities at each camp leading and connecting with the youth. At both of the youth camps, the candidate will be a counsellor and assigned a cabin with another adult. At Reunion, the candidate will have the option of a private or shared dorm room.

Deepening Discipleship: The candidate will be required to engage and connect with a variety of youth to provide encouragement and ideas for them to maintain an ongoing relationship with their home congregations.

Skills / Qualities: The candidate will be energetic and have the ability to have fun but be a good role model; demonstrate maturity for their age; demonstrate common sense; demonstrate effective communication skills (verbal) and the ability to ask questions and seek guidance when necessary.

Preparation: The candidate will be provided with a specific outline as to what their responsibilities will be and what preparation will need to be made in advance.

Ordination of Shirley Bolger – Victoria

Shirley Bolger was ordained to the office of Elder on May 11th.

The ordination was done by her husband Evangelist Carl Bolger and Elder Donna Martin.

Shirley was surrounded by her family and church friends.

Young Adult Retreat Hills of Peace

June 13-15

Hills of Peace Friday, June 13 – 6:30 pm to Sunday, June 15 – noon

I’m a Christian Young Adult … now what?

We’ve grown up in the church but what is the next step? What does worship and participation look like for young adults? How do we reinvent our understanding of God and Christ-like community for today’s young adults?

The Young Adult Retreat is an opportunity for YOU to re-experience camp at Hills of Peace. There will be plenty of time to reconnect with old friends, cultivate new ones, fellowship, discuss our role in the church community and eat awesome food.

Participants, 19 – 27 years must have “aged out” of the youth programs in order to attend (you are no longer eligible for Sr High Camp, SPEC, etc.)

Canada West Youth Camp – June 30-July 5

If you or someone you know would love to come to camp – be sure to let us know! This camp is for those completed grades 7-12. 2014 Directors are Tyler Baines and Rachelle Smalldon.

Ages 18 and older are invited to come as leaders in training or staff! We really need your help on staff for this youth camp (particularly males)! If you can come – contact Rachelle Smalldon at rlsmalldon@gmail.com

If you can't come personally, but would like to donate funds (either individually or as a congregation) so we can bring in other staff so our youth camp can be successful, that is also very helpful! Just contact Rachelle Smalldon (rlsmalldon@gmail.com) to coordinate donations!
