Job Opening – Canada West Mission Centre

Camping and Retreat Specialist

General

Camping and Retreat Program Specialist is one who provides leadership and support to leaders to create and sustain vibrant camping and retreat experiences. Through camps and retreats they assist in establishing and reaching goals aligned with the Mission Initiatives. With development and invitation being a focus of this position the ministry will attend to specific needs of the wider mission. The goal of this position is to create and organize a sustainable, vibrant camping and retreat program in Canada West Mission. This has potential to be a four year position.

Accountability

Camping and Retreat Program Specialist is supervised by the Mission Centre President (MCP). They inform the MCP of all important issues in their camps/retreats and communicate regularly with all mission centre staff to share ideas and celebrations, coordinate missional efforts and maximize mission support.

Camping and Retreat Program Specialist is expected to visit congregations and become familiar with the congregational leaders, members and programs. They regularly communicate with congregational leaders in regards to resources, training, personnel and other communications by the mission centre and world church. Camping and Retreat Program Specialist may preach, teach, provide training and facilitate workshops.

Invite People to Christ

○ Promote evangelism and empower witness and invitation among congregational members, through training, motivating, modeling, and spiritual renewal

○ Initiate and lead focused retreats.

Develop Disciples to Serve

○ Assess skills, resources and needs of congregations in developing members/friends

○ Assist in developing succession plan for retreat programming in CWM

○ Mentoring relationships of potential leaders

o Ensure retreats meet the needs of the membership in each area of congregational life

Empower Communities in Mission

○ Assist event participants in discerning their giftedness and creating a vision for outreach programs

○ Seek and train a core group of leaders to create an inviting atmosphere for children, youth, and

young adult participation and leadership

Examples of Desired Events:

o Youth Retreats

o Assist with Camping program and Summer retreats

Help Strengthen Canadian Field Peace/Justice Efforts !

Consider helping the Canadian Field in its Peace/Justice Efforts! The Canadian Peace/Justice Committee is forming subcommittees to help address some of the issues that swirl around us. Do you feel particularly drawn to any of the following issues?

- Canadian justice system and its current policies;

- Mental Health and the current Canadian system’s inadequacies;

- First Nations Issues;

- Immigration / Refugee Assistance;

- GMOs;

- Human Trafficking;

- Foreign Aid / International Development (not ready yet);

- Military / Peacekeeping (not ready yet);

- Inter-Religious Relations (not ready yet);

- Others? Child Poverty, etc. – let us know your area of concern.

We are creating subcommittees to explore the above issues. So please contact a committee member, listed below, if you feel you might be interested in being part of this impactful effort. As a church committed to the pursuit of peace, there are many ways that we, under God’s Good Spirit, can join with others to help further God’s desire for true shalom for all!

Samish Island Reunion Planning Committee

The summer is sneaking up on us and it's time to start planning Reunion 2013.

Our guest ministry is Art Smith, Apostle designate and current Mission Centre President in South America. He will be attending, hopefully with his family. He has been in touch with Don Compier, our guest minister last year, and is very excited about the opportunity to get out west for a week to be with us. There will be a reunion planning session in the upcoming couple of weeks. Summer Volunteer(s) Needed - Samish Campground

Samish Campground located in the NW corner of Washington State is seeking an individual or couple with an RV to serve as grounds and maintenance volunteers during May through August, 2013. The position entails mowing and maintenance of the
grounds, some handyman work and stocking shelves when food orders arrive, etc. An RV site with full hookups will be provided. Telephone and wireless Internet are
available in dining hall. Meals are provided during camps ( approximately 85%
of this time).

New Miniseries Starting Sunday March 3rd

The Christian Post was able to preview segments of "The Bible" last month, and Burnett and Downey revealed a colorful, captivating take on some of the most important stories in the Christian religion.  While sometimes violent, "The Bible" offers visually enchanting depictions of well-known and beloved Biblical characters. Noah's Ark, the Exodus, Abraham, and the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ are among the Bible stories covered in the highly anticipated television series. The series sees stars such as "Game of Thrones" actors Sean Bean and Nonso Anozie, while Roma Downey herself portrays Mary, the mother of Jesus.

Following its March 3 premiere, remaining episodes of "The Bible" will air each Sunday with the finale arriving on Easter Sunday, March 31.
