Nurturing Spirit Weekend in Calgary

in Review

Nurturing Spirit: Falling in Love With Your "Divine Self" was a fabulous weekend in Calgary facilitated by Vickie McArthur. Vickie taught participants how to slow down their busy lives and get in touch with the Holy Spirit through gentle stretches, paying attention to the breath and being silent. Students were given practical advice about how to create their own regular meditation and prayer practises. The spiritual, mental, and physical discipline of yoga helps to create spiritual insight and tranquility. The event opened Friday night with the viewing of a movie "The Consciousness of the Christ: Reclaiming Jesus for a New Humanity".

During the weekend, there was also opportunity to make a meditation bracelet with precious gem stones; learn about Reiki and Tai Chi; walk a labyrinth; eat lunch in silence; and engage in a drumming meditation. Nineteen people took part in the activities from the local congregation and the community.

"Being new to the church I thought this weekend was a great way to spend time with some of the members on a more comfortable and informal basis.  It's nice to know that there are others that enjoy my practices as well, such as meditation and beading."Launa

Our Canadian National Conference is approaching fast.  It’s now time to register.  This Conference is very important to all Canadians so we are urging you to make an extra effort to attend.  If you won’t be in your home town on June 16^th, and you’ll be somewhere else in Canada, please register to attend at another site.  We have included a list of all Canada West Mission sites and registrars below.

Samish Island Work Party

Its Spring at Samish ! Cherry trees and early rhodie's are in bloom. The robins are singing. Everything is green...very green. and ...you guessed it! Time for Work Parties!
Over the fall and winter the dining hall got a make over, new roof, new kitchen, new carpet! Over 80 friends of Samish blessed the campground with help for these special dining hall and kitchen workday projects! It has been a monumental effort!
So this year? No new projects! Promise!! Just regular ol' cleaning, weeding, pressure washing, painting, siding replacement. Ok, well there is the rustic cabin colorization project...but that's just paint right? Come celebrate spring with us!

Canada West Youth Camp 2012

This summer, all Junior High age campers (11-14), Senior High age campers (15-18) and Young Adults (between the ages of 18-21) are invited to attend CANADA WEST - YOUTH CAMP 2012. This camp will take place during the first week of July 1-7 at Hills of Peace Campgrounds.

We are looking for excellent examples of local people bringing peace to neighbourhoods and their communities through celebration, reconciliation and collaboration.

Examples might be:

• Mentoring
• Faith-based community support
• Volunteers who have made outstanding contributions to reducing violence in their neighbourhoods
• An individual who has shown exceptional courage in keeping the Peace
• Community safety / crime reduction initiative.
• An individual working across diverse groups to bring about positive changes
• People actively building bridges between young people, communities, generations, faiths or cultures.
• A congregation actively involved in engaging and connecting local communities, promoting Peace and Justice, uniting others to be peacemakers for the good of all.
