Pack it up Party at Samish Island
Friends of Camp Samish!
We have just completed another wonderfully fulfilling camp and retreat season here at Samish. The last retreat has ended, the care takers have completed most of the winterization and now we're into maintenance and remodel mode!
Thanks to a wonderful gift from the Einar Hopen estate and the Vancouver BC Congregation we are able to move on to the second phase of the camp kitchen upgrade. Jen Watson, Food Service Manager, (with expert product research and consulting from Ian) has done a lot of intense detail work getting bids and securing contracts for the new floor surfaces and replacement of prep and serving surfaces with stainless steel fixtures. ( Yeah Jen! ) We need to clear everything out of the kitchen, pantry and adjourning rooms and then demo all of the wood cabinets, prep tables and the serving line cabinets and counter. Once that's done then we install the hardibacker underlayment before the contractors come in.
This past week, Martha Fishel , Jen, Ian, Penny and I have completed most of the clearing.
So..now its time to tear things out!!! We need people who can swing hammers and crow bars as well as those who can handle a broom and dustpan! There is some heavy duty demo work but also a lot of light tasks clearing ,cleaning and wiping things down...
We are planning two kitchen work days: Saturday, November 5th and Saturday November 19th We know the GPNW Mission Center Conference is the first weekend so we'll hope others can fill in that day. Also,if you have midweek availability we'll take it!!

This phase will complete the upgrade and code compliance plan Penny initiated with the Board in early 2007...so many great gifts of time, talent and money have come together to make this happen! We are so very grateful for the contributions and support that you provide!
