The 2010 Community of Christ International Peace Award will be presented at Peace Colloquy to Greg Mortenson, co-founder and executive director of Central Asia Institute. His mission is to promote and support community-based education, especially for girls, in remote regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan. He is co-author of the bestseller Three Cups of Tea and author of Stones into Schools. The award ceremony will open the colloquy, October 29, at 7:30 p.m. at the Temple and will be webcast live at www.CofChrist.org in English, French, and Spanish. Learn more about Mortenson and the award at www.CofChrist.org/PeaceAward. The World Hunger-Tangible Love Team approved funding in April on behalf of World Hunger projects totaling $277,000. A total of $ 47,600 was allocated to Tangible Love projects. An additional $239,000 from the World Hunger Fund was approved on behalf of short- and long-term hunger relief for those suffering as a result of the devastating earthquake in Haiti. World Hunger grants are available to Community of Christ jurisdictions wishing to initiate projects for the express purpose of ministering to people experiencing poverty and hunger. Tangible Love grants are available to Community of Christ jurisdictions that are willing to work in collaboration with other agencies and groups in their community in order to foster peace, justice, and compassionate ministries. Community of Christ Seminary announces upcoming courses: beginning July 5, RELG5040, New Testament I; August 30, RELG5010, Ministerial Issues; and October 25, RELG5050, New Testament II. Restoration Studies has been published by the church on an occasional basis since 1980. For the last two years (volumes X and XI) it has been published annually by the John Whitmer Historical Association under special arrangement with the church. This publication includes articles on theology and culture in the church and the broader Latter Day Saint movement. Although most articles are scholarly, research-based works, papers of a more reflective, testimonial nature are also included.
